"cyclops skull " technique experimentation - 8x10" watercolor pen , ballpoint pen , photoshop

Trying to get a scratch board effect by manipulating a quick sketch to understand the process. This method will work well with logo designs especially.

"The Scorpius Illustrare Treatment" an 8x10" photocopy gets burried in the garden for a few days with the worms, dug up and dissected.

A treatment or process that creates an overall degradated patina look using old school analog art techniques on paper. The image is further manipulated in photoshop with text added. This technique will work well with album art and flyer designs.

"Horn Skull" experiment with pencil, marbled paper and photoshop 8/2021

The skull was entirely drawn as a sketch and then cut out with scissors. The skull was placed on marblized paper and photographed. The photo was tweaked with hundreds of clicks on the mouse in photoshop using various tools experimenting around with a trial and error method of contrasting and toning that added much depth to the initial sketch. I like this process because the end result has depth and a primitive roughness that reminds me of print making.

"Campaign Of The Apocalypse" 12x12" collage with photos, marbled paper, black and white pen. 2020

A stepping stone to where I am at now, a year later with merging images together. The square implies the album cover like format of composition which I am back to.

"1989?" oil on canvas

This piece is an original automatic painting of my subconscious mind around 1989. One of the only oil paintings I ever did as I have used mostly acrylics. I also created a few drawings with watercolors around this time with this surrealism quality that I will try to track down.

"Ram Skull" pencil & watercolor from around 2005

I like the way I simplified in color. If i did this today I would have used photoshop to find the color separations. This is an older piece that I have post edit enhanced slightly with some extra contrast.I still like this one because the style is so simple yet striking.

"Necro Decay" demo album cover. digital photo manipulation and logo

Digital graphics for a record label that fell apart before it began. The concept was to re-release some old demo tapes from a few obscure death metal bands in the Grass Valley Northern California region. It's amazing that these digital artworks survived through various hard drives not to mention that they were created at all...even after the bands we're long gone. Now I am glad to have found them again because they set the stage for what is to come. -Scorpius

"Necro Decay" digital logo design

An interesting experiment with digital drawing. It took me hours...but I don't understand why I didn't  just draw this with a brush.

"Dejected Reverence - Blood River" a digital layout design and photo manipulation

"Hepatic Cystic Echinococcosis" - a harsh gore noise project - digital logo design

Trying to copy the style of extreme harsh gore noise grind logos where you can't read it at all. Believe it or not this design started out with standard font and was crushed and tweaked into submission with a gazillion clicks of the mouse.

earlier self portrait - explorations with digital enhancement

This is an older photo back in the day when I was raising the dead. Quite litterally I co-hosted a radio show called "Raise The Dead" and it is a metal and ambient horror format that is still on the air.

It's all one photo under a mighty oak tree and tweaked in photoshop. This is when I really began messing around with the digital realm. I think it;s an important tool to save time and create ideas, however I have now been going back to the old school organic techniques of working on paper with pens and brushes.  I don't care so much for clicking a million times with a mouse to paint a picture.

first digital design for the Scorpius Illustrare graphics studios 8/2/21

Introduction and mission statement:

I am beginning this site to pull together some designs of the past as an archive of some my work. I am also starting my new art career at a late stage in life.

These blogs are a portfolio for developing visual ideas that are influenced by and intended for underground metal, crust punk and noise bands...and that type of visual presentation.

I think that as an artist I must be true to my nature and shadow mind(Carl Jung). The dream world can be disturbing but also reveals a hidden beauty in it's surreal contradictions . It's important for me to shine a light of creativity into the darkness and illuminate the scary alleys of sub-consciousness mind. I produce many various forms of art, such as traditional pet portraits, but the intention with "Scorpius Illustrare" is to offer an alternative format from my other outputs. This might be a place my digital manipulations with photoshop. I look to the extremes of the subconscious mind for revelation of truth hidden in plain view through symbols and metaphors found thru-ought layers of histories buried beneath lies and deception. History is a mystery and we have been lied to about e v e r y t h i n g. The bible having been re-written over and over is an example of basic mind control and manipulation by the church. But I digress...

So there you have it and that's the foundation of this adventure. I also like to write as another way to express my philosophical viewpoints so blo blo bloggin' I go.
